MOULD and DIE maintenance and reconditioning
Ultrasonic cleaning of moulds and dies is now a common application and is preferred to other types of treatment:
- sandblasting with abrasives
- glass bead shot peening
- dry-ice blasting
- acid spray or immersion
- high pressure water jet
The fact is that with all the above mentioned methods in the long run, meaning after several cleaning cycles, delicate parts such as edges, surface joints, surfaces, etc. are abraded so pieces come out with burrs and defects in engravings on flat surfaces.

Mould and die cleaning is performed with our LIFTER systems: moulds and dies up to 1,000 kg and above.
Phases of the procedure
The moulds and dies are loaded onto a platform.
When the START command is given, in automatic mode:
- the platform descends
- the cover closes
- the ultrasonic cleaners are powered ON
- an “up and down” (tilting) movement begins, at the end of which
- the cover opens and
- the platform rises again to the loading/unloading position
The ultrasonic cleaning of moulds and dies offers significant advantages compared to other systems (sandblasting and shot peening, high pressure water jets, nitrogen or other):
- uniform treatment of edges and surfaces without abrasion
- access points which are the most difficult to see and reach
- use of normal alkaline detergents versus the use of acids
- zero labour
Cleaning is performed using a low alkaline concentration water-based detergent meaning it is almost never necessary to rinse or protect the metal and hot parts dry in just a few minutes after exiting the bath.
In other cases, the cleaning of moulds and dies often requires a complex treatment process, such as:
- pre-wash
- ultrasonic cleanings
- rinse
- protection
- drying
Everything is automated due to the weight of baskets loaded with moulds and dies.
